Southampton v Brighton

Southampton will hope to welcome back influential midfielder Nigel Quashie for the south-coast derby against Brighton.

The Scotland international missed the 2-1 defeat to Cardiff on Saturday due to a knee injury but should return.

However, Michael Svensson (knee), Kamil Kosowski (hamstring), Danny Higginbotham (groin) and Marian Pahars (knee) are all definitely out.

Claus Lundekvam (ribs/groin op) is returning to fitness but is unlikely to feature, while Darren Powell (hamstring) and Nathan Dyer (dead leg) are doubts. Matt Oakley (calf) is highly unlikely to play.

Brighton will be missing three players through suspension.

Colin Kazim-Richards, Paul Reid and Dean Hammond are all serving one-game bans and miss out. Argentinian striker Federico Turienzo (hamstring) is unlikely to play, while Alexis Nicholas (knee) is a doubt.

Charlie Oatway is injured but Gary Hart could start after he missed the defeat by Millwall through tonsillitis.

Plymouth v Leeds
Plymouth will be forced to change their starting line-up as influential midfielder David Norris is suspended for the home Championship clash with Leeds.

Norris misses out after collecting five cautions and so Hungarian playmaker Akos Buzsaky is set to return.

The game is also set to mark the last outing for on-loan Norwich midfielder Jason Jarrett as his two-month loan spell is up following the match.

Right-back Paul Connolly returned from suspension for the 1-1 draw at Wolves, where Anthony Barness switched to his more accustomed left-back role.

Argyle are unbeaten in their last four Championship games.

Leeds manager Kevin Blackwell could shuffle his pack as he takes his in-form side to Plymouth on the back of three games in five days.

Strike duo Rob Hulse and David Healy were forced to settle for substitute roles in the New Year's Eve win over Hull City and the pair could be offered a recall at the expense of Robbie Blake and Richard Cresswell.

Left-back Dan Harding missed the victory over the Tigers through injury and is unlikely to return at Home Park, so Stephen Crainey should continue in his absence.

Icelandic midfielder Gylfi Einarsson remains sidelined with a dislocated shoulder.

Norwich - Preston

Norwich will be without Youssef Safri and Jurgen Colin when Preston visit Carrow Road.

Safri misses out through suspension after collecting his fifth booking of the season in the 2-1 win over Burnley, while Colin is absent after sustaining an injury against Leicester.

The Dutch defender fell awkwardly late on at the Walkers Stadium and although the severity of the problem is yet to be determined, he will play no part against North End.

Leon McKenzie (ankle) remains sidelined after injury against the Clarets, while question marks still hang over the fitness of Jason Shackell and Jim Brennan after the pair suffered viruses over Christmas.

Preston are without England Under-21 international David Jones.

The Manchester United youngster confirmed last week he would not be extending his loan spell at Deepdale after agreeing to join Dutch Eredivisie side NEC Nijmegen on loan for the remainder of the season.

Manager Billy Davies is also likely to be without defender Callum Davidson (hamstring) and midfielder Paul McKenna (dead leg) for the clash. Goalkeeper Andy Lonergan will miss the rest of the season with a serious knee injury.

Reading v Cardiff

Reading boss Steve Coppell could welcome leading goalscorer Dave Kitson back into his squad for the home clash with Cardiff.

The 25-year-old striker missed the New Year's Eve draw at Derby with cramp in his hamstring, but is expected to recover in time to play some part against the Bluebirds.

Fellow frontman Leroy Lita has been sidelined since early December with an ankle complaint and, although he is still not fully recovered, he is available if needed.

James Harper is still struggling for fitness so Iceland international Brynjar Gunnarsson is set to continue in midfield.

Cardiff will have to change a winning formula if skipper Darren Purse and Rhys Weston are to return to the team.

Both have sat out the last two Championship games, Purse through suspension and Wales international Weston with a hip injury.

Ex-Watford star Neil Cox has stood in for Purse while former Wimbledon ace Neal Ardley has been deputising for Weston, the pair playing in the 1-0 defeat at QPR and the 2-1 home success against Southampton.

Cardiff will run the rule over several walking wounded before confirming the starting XI.

Sheff Wed v Crewe

Sheffield Wednesday manager Paul Sturrock is unlikely to change his side for the visit of Crewe following an impressive 2-1 win over Burnley at Turf Moor.

Irish midfielder Glenn Whelan may be offered a recall to the starting line-up after replacing Steve Adams in the second half of the New Year's Eve win, but Sturrock's hand will not be forced by injuries or suspensions.

Defender John Hills collected his fifth yellow card of the season on Saturday but will not serve his suspension until the FA Cup clash with Charlton on January 7.

Crewe boss Dario Gradi has plenty of injury worries ahead of his side's bottom-of-the-table trip to Hillsborough.

Striker Michael Higdon looks set to miss his fourth successive game after tearing a muscle in his stomach.

Richard Walker (ankle) and goalkeeper Ben Williams (wrist) are also major doubts for Monday's clash.

Striker Juan Ugarte will definitely miss out with a knee injury

Millwall v Derby

Millwall boss David Tuttle looks set to make changes for the visit of Derby.

Tuttle wasted no time in shuffling his pack against Brighton on New Year's Eve as he made a triple substitution at the break - sending on Barry Cogan, Marvin Williams and Josh Simpson as his side trailed 1-0.

It worked wonders as they rallied to win 2-1 and now all three players are pushing for a starting berth against the Rams.

Simpson, in particular, pressed his claims emphatically with a 50th-minute winner at the Withdean and Tuttle admitted: ``The three that came on have a lot of pace, which is what we needed. They came on and did well.''

Marvin Elliott failed a late fitness test on a knee injury ahead of the Brighton game and will be assessed again prior to kick off.

Derby boss Phil Brown will be forced into two changes.

Striker Danny Graham has completed his loan spell and returned to Middlesbrough after starring in the 2-2 New Year's Eve draw with Reading, while fellow Boro loanee Andrew Davies is suspended after being sent off for the third time this season in that game.

Paul Peschisolido could be in line to replace Graham in attack, while Michael Johnson looks to be favourite to take Davies' place in defence.

Adam Bolder and Lee Holmes could both keep their spots after coming into the side for the Reading clash, while Morten Bisgaard will be pushing for a return to the squad after missing out completely against the Royals.

Coventry v Wolves

Michael Doyle is back in the Coventry squad for the clash with West Midlands rivals Wolves.

Doyle was forced to sit out the 3-1 defeat to Preston after his red card in the game with Crewe.

Richard Duffy could also return after missing the trip to Deepdale after suffering a broken nose against Alex, while Stern John is pushing for a start in attack after scoring City's second-half consolation goal against North End.

Kevin Thornton is a doubt after limping out of the game with Preston, while Stuart Giddings (knee), Stephen Hughes (Achilles) and Neil Wood (knee) are all out.

But there is good news for boss Micky Adams after Marcus Hall, who had been struggling with a calf injury, played 45 minutes at Preston.

Rob Edwards could return to the Wolves side.

Edwards was rested for the 1-1 draw with Plymouth on New Year's Eve, but boss Glenn Hoddle may elect to restore the former Aston Villa man to the starting line-up.

Lee Naylor could return after a patella problem, while Gabor Gyepes (ankle) and Mark Kennedy (calf) both shook off their injuries in time to face Argyle.

Mark Davies is back in contention after a hernia problem, but long-term victims George Ndah (medial knee ligament) and Mark Clyde (hip) are both out and new signing Denes Rosa is ineligible.

Crystal Palace v Leicester

Crystal Palace boss Iain Dowie will again have to make do without striker Jon Macken for the visit of Leicester to Selhurst Park.

Macken serves the final game of a three-match ban following his sending-off against Ipswich on Boxing Day and so Clinton Morrison and Andy Johnson will again lead the line.

Ben Watson is pushing for a recall to the starting line-up after being named as an unused substitute in the 2-1 win over Watford on New Year's Eve while veteran Michael Hughes should retain his place in midfield.

German winger Marco Reich could make the squad if he passes a late fitness test but defender Danny Butterfield (foot) is still out.

Leicester boss Craig Levein may have Patrick Kisnorbo available again after the full-back missed the defeat to Norwich because of illness.

Danny Tiatto and Alan Sheehan could also come back into the squad after being left out against the Canaries, despite being available again after suspensions.

Levein may choose to rotate his strikers after they fired another blank against Norwich, so Elvis Hammond could be in line for a start.

Patrick Gerrbrand is a doubt after suffering a hamstring injury, while long-term casualties James Wesolowski (broken leg) and Lee Morris (knee) are still missing.

Luton v Watford
Luton boss Mike Newell looks set to restore striker Steve Howard to the starting line-up for the visit of Watford.

Newell dropped Howard to the bench for the 1-0 defeat against Ipswich on New Year's Eve in an effort to give him a rest.

But with Luton looking to bounce back from that result at Portman Road, the former Hartlepool man looks set to get the nod, with Warren Feeney likely to make way.

Defender Chris Coyne is a major doubt after being forced off against the Tractor Boys with an injury and so Leon Barnett is standing by.

Watford boss Adrian Boothroyd has had his options boosted ahead of the trip by the return from injury of Ashley Young.

The exciting forward made a successful comeback as a substitute after nearly a month out with an ankle injury in the 2-1 defeat against Crystal Palace on New Year's Eve.

Boothroyd must now decide whether to play him for the start at Kenilworth Road but he admits that he is delighted to see the youngster back.

``Ashley brought a lot of energy into the team. He will make and score goals for us,'' said the Hornets boss.

Anthony McNamee is likely to retain his place after passing a late fitness test on an injured knee to face Palace.

West Ham v Chelsea

Chelsea will be without suspended England midfielder Joe Cole for the trip to his former club West Ham on Monday.

Damien Duff, left out of the squad for the win over Birmingham, will replace him with Didier Drogba given the striking role ahead of Hernan Crespo as coach Jose Mourinho continues to rotate his strikers over the holiday programme.

Claude Makelele, who started the Birmingham game as a substitute, will return the midfield anchorman role with Eidur Gudjohnsen or Michael Essien stepping down to accommodate him.

West Ham could have defenders Danny Gabbidon and Tomas Repka back from injury.

However, striker Bobby Zamora (hamstring) is a doubt, while veteran Teddy Sheringham (calf) is still not fully recovered.

Midfielder Yossi Benayoun, fit again following a groin problem, came off the bench in Saturday's defeat at Charlton, and may be in contention to start.

Bolton v Liverpool
Liverpool have a slight doubt over striker Djibril Cisse's fitness for Monday's trip to face Bolton at the Reebok Stadium.

The Frenchman limped out of the 1-0 win over West Brom with a muscle injury but boss Rafael Benitez expected the 10-goal man to be ready for the Lancashire derby.

Fernando Morientes and Boudewijn Zenden are both still out with knee injuries.

If Liverpool win it will be their 11th successive league victory, equalling the club record set in 1982.

El-Hadji Diouf should return from suspension to give Bolton added firepower.

The Senegal striker was badly missed at Manchester United and manager Sam Allardyce will expect a big performance from a player who is due to depart shortly for African Nations Cup duty.

Bolton picked up no fresh injury problems during their Old Trafford mauling but a booking for Kevin Nolan means he will be suspended for next weekend's FA Cup tie at Watford.

Winger Dennis Rommedahl could keep his place after impressing in the 2-0 win over West Ham on Saturday.

Spanish midfielder Mikel Arteta returns to the Everton squad after serving his one-match ban.

Arteta missed Saturday's 1-0 victory at Sunderland after being sent off during the derby defeat by Liverpool last Wednesday.

But Phil Neville, who was also red-carded in the Merseyside derby, is sidelined once again as it was his second dismissal of the season.

Simon Davies aggravated an ankle problem at the Stadium of Light, while Per Kroldrup was unavailable against Sunderland due to a similar injury, but both stand a chance of being involved.

Sunderland midfielder Christian Bassila is likely to be missing for the Barclays Premiership trip to Fulham on Monday after damaging a hamstring in training.

The Frenchman missed Saturday's 1-0 home defeat by Everton with the injury and is not expected to recover in time for the game at Craven Cottage.

Skipper Gary Breen will be available despite picking up his fifth yellow card of the season against the Toffees, but will miss next weekend's FA Cup clash with Northwich Victoria, while Stephen Elliott (back), Stephen Wright (calf) and Chris Brown (ankle) are still out.

Fulham hope to have Papa Bouba Diop back from injury in time for the game.

Fulham boss Chris Coleman hopes giant Senegal midfielder Diop, nicknamed 'Wardrobe', will face the Black Cats even though he may not be 100%.

Sylvain Legwinski and Heidar Helguson are doubtful after picking up injuries in the New Year's Eve defeat at Portsmouth.

West Brom v Aston Villa

But Inamoto's fellow midfielder Zoltan Gera is still suffering soreness following a hernia operation and will not be considered.

Ronnie Wallwork, who limped out of the Anfield defeat with an ankle problem, is expected to be fit.

Aston Villa manager David O'Leary was breathing a sigh of relief after picking up no new injuries in the goalless draw against Arsenal on Saturday.

O'Leary has only 15 fit senior players at his disposal and rookie Craig Gardner will again have to be on the bench against West Brom.
