Juventus - Roma
Juventus har fyra spelare borta. Varken Miccoli, Pessotto, Conte eller Fresi kan vara med.
Roma får tillbaka Dacourt efter avstängning. Tränaren Marcello Lippi fortsätter med sitt tremannaanfall bestående av Francesco Totti, Antonio Cassano och Vincenzo Montella.

Juventus-Roma

They don’t come much bigger, much brighter or more bitter than Juventus-Roma. A grudge match between the top two sides in Serie A right now can only be an event in the Italian calendar.

These two teams have always carried on a difficult rapport both on and off the field, controversy sticking to them like glue. This season there is added spice with the on-going Edgar Davids saga. President Franco Sensi announced that the Dutchman had agreed to join Roma as a free agent next summer, while Juve have seemingly frozen him out of the first team as punishment for not extending his contract. Should Davids be given a place in the starting eleven, it would be a performance to watch.

Another man in the spotlight is Nicola Legrottaglie, as his ticket to the Capital was switched to Turin overnight. One of the summer transfer stories saw the ex-Chievo defender carry on negotiations with Roma for months, only to join Juve in a surprise deal. A similar scenario occurred with Stephan Appiah, so it is not difficult to see why the two clubs are at constant loggerheads.

There are set to be fireworks on the field as well as off. Fabio Capello’s new trident attack system of Francesco Totti, Antonio Cassano and Vincenzo Montella has worked wonders, netting seven goals in two games. Ex-Valencia striker John Carew provides another tactical alternative, while Cristian Chivu has already shown his free kick prowess with a stunning strike on his debut.

Olivier Dacourt returns from suspension, with Christian Panucci and Vincent Candela also back in action. Perhaps even more importantly, Roma do not have the distraction of the Champions’ League this season and are aiming squarely to recapture their Scudetto.

Juventus have won the title for the last two years running and it will be quite a task to do the hat-trick. They certainly have the squad for it, as Marco Di Vaio, Davids and possibly Fabrizio Miccoli – on the mend after an emergency appendectomy – are ready to come off the bench.

Di Vaio may well start after Trezeguet limped off with a knee problem against Chievo. Alessandro Del Piero and Gianluca Zambrotta are the on-form men of the moment for Juve and traditionally relish these big encounters.

Juventus (probable): Buffon; Thuram, Legrottaglie, Montero, Zambrotta; Tacchinardi, Appiah; Camoranesi, Nedved, Del Piero; Trezeguet

Roma (probable): Pelizzoli; Zebina, Samuel, Chivu; Dacourt, Emerson, De Rossi, Mancini; Totti; Montella, Cassano

Lazio - Parma

Lazio-Parma

If it’s entertainment you want then look no further than Lazio versus Parma at the Stadio Olimpico. Both these teams base their success on pace, quality and wave upon wave of attacks.

The Biancocelesti were distracted by their midweek Champions’ League trip to Besiktas, but Claudio Lopez and Bernardo Corradi should still start in this tough encounter. Sinisa Mihajlovic also returns following a thigh problem picked up in the 2-1 win at Sampdoria. Roberto Mancini’s Lazio are dark horses for the Scudetto race, but with six points already under their belts, this is the first real test of their title potential.

Parma are just outside the leading pack, but will undoubtedly prove a tough customer for any of the big teams. The club policy of selling off top stars and relying on promising youngsters is paying off despite the departure of new Chelsea hero Adrian Mutu.

Adriano has started the new season the way he ended the last, bagging three goals in just two games and terrorising defences. The giant Brazilian is ably assisted by the passes of Domenico Morfeo and Mark Bresciano, but Coach Cesare Prandelli may opt for a 4-4-2 in this trip to Rome. Alberto Gilardino has been on sparkling form for the Under-21 international side and netted in last week’s 3-0 drubbing of Perugia, so he could be given the nod to partner Adriano.

One man to watch is Hidetoshi Nakata. The Japanese international was a confirmed transfer target for Lazio and negotiations carried on for several months, but he eventually rejected the chance to join Mancini’s outfit.

Lazio (probable): Peruzzi; Oddo, Stam, Mihajlovic, Favalli; Fiore, Albertini, Stankovic, Zauri; Corradi, Lopez

Parma (probable): Frey; Bonera, Ferrari, Castellini, Seric; Barone, Blasi; Nakata, Morfeo, Bresciano; Adriano

Inter-Sampdoria

Inter have hardly impressed so far, but they have six points in the bag and will be looking to silence their critics against Sampdoria.

Hector Cuper insisted this summer that the watchword for his tactics would be ‘entertainment’, but there has been precious little of that on show so far. It took an own goal – and two crossbars – to see off Siena last week and the criticism from the press has been vitriolic.

Nonetheless, the Nerazzurri maintained their 100 per cent record and are gradually increasing the influence of the new arrivals. Former Ajax star Andy Van der Meyde has perhaps been the quickest to settle in, while South Americans Kily Gonzalez, Mathias Almeyda and Alvaro Recoba should now be available for selection. The Uruguayan also missed the midweek Champions’ League trip to Highbury with a hip problem that has affected his training schedule.

Christian Vieri is still in doubt to feature after damaging both ankles during Italy’s 1-1 draw in Serbia-Montenegro. The giant striker has always been key to Inter’s tactics, but should he not make it then Julio Cruz could partner Obafemi Martins.

Sampdoria are tipped to be one of the surprise sides in Serie A this season after spending big on top stars to celebrate promotion. Coach Walter Novellino is also a staunch supporter of the 4-4-2 system and could give the nod to Francesco Flachi as a partner to Fabio Bazzani. Flachi’s introduction as a substitute in the last two games has always coincided with a lift in their fortunes, although Massimo Marazzina and Japanese international Atsushi Yanagisawa provide tough competition.

The truly weak link in Samp at the moment is Cristiano Doni, seemingly a shadow of the creative midfielder who earned a place in the Azzurri squad. The former Atalanta man’s morale was further hit by his penalty miss in the 2-1 defeat to Lazio last Saturday.

Inter (probable): Toldo; J Zanetti, Cannavaro, Materazzi, Cordoba; Van der Meyde, C Zanetti, Emre, Kily Gonzalez; Cruz, Martins

Sampdoria (probable): Antonioli; Diana, Falcone, Grandoni, Bettarini; Donati, Volpi, Palombo, Doni; Flachi, Bazzani
.................
Perugia - Milan

Perugia-Milan

Milan were beaten here last season and will be worried at entering the Renato Curi Stadium again.

The Rossoneri’s form against the smaller sides effectively cost them the Scudetto last year, and looking at their last-minute victory over Bologna in Week 2 that is an issue which has still not been resolved.

The Champions’ League will also force Carlo Ancelotti to rotate his squad, so Rivaldo could be given his Serie A debut. The Brazilian has bitterly complained of his treatment in the press and threatened to walk out if he was not granted more first team football.

Paolo Maldini returns from suspension to shore up the defence, while Kakha Kaladze and Giuseppe Pancaro are hoping to recover from fitness worries to start. Width also remains a problem for Milan and we could see Serginho earn a spot in the first eleven.

Perugia are always stronger on home turf and seem to raise their game against the big sides. Fabrizio Miccoli scored that spectacular winner against Milan last season, but the man to watch is now Jay Bothroyd. He is the focal point for the Grifoni attack alongside Greek international Zisis Vryzas, a man who often nets when he sees the red and black jerseys.

Perugia (probable): Kalac; Alioui, Di Loreto, Diamoutene; Ze Maria, Tedesco, Obodo, Fusani, Grosso; Bothroyd, Vryzas

Milan (probable): Dida; Simic, Nesta, Maldini, Cafu; Gattuso, Pirlo, Seedorf; Rivaldo, Kaka; Shevchenko
..........................
Bologna - Udinese

Bologna-Udinese

Bologna are still looking for their first win of the season and welcome battling Udinese to the Stadio Dall’Ara.

The Rossoblu were perhaps unlucky not to leave the San Siro with a point last week, Pippo Inzaghi grabbing a late winner for Milan. This team has traditionally been far stronger on its own turf and will be more inventive in front of the home fans.

Udinese celebrated a surprise fifth-place finish last season despite an on-going injury crisis and it seems the same problems are flaring up again. Valerio Bertotto returns from suspension, but Alberto is out for up to a month with a knee injury.

A battling spirit is evident in Luciano Spalletti’s side, as last week they left Modena with a 1-0 victory despite playing with ten men for over an hour. However, that can spill out into a disciplinary issue as they have collected two red cards in as many games.

Bologna (probable): Pagliuca; Zaccardo, Natali, Moretti; Nervo, Amoroso, Colucci, Locatelli, Guly; Signori, Rossini

Udinese (probable): De Sanctis; Bertotto, Sensini, Kroldrup; Gemiti, Pinzi, Pizarro, Pieri; Jankulovski, Jorgensen; Iaquinta
.............
Lecce - Chievo
Cimirotic saknas hos hemmalaget.
Chievo är ordniarie.

Lecce-Chievo
Lecce are a formidable force on home turf and will be hoping to get all three points against Chievo.

The Salentini are unbeaten at the Stadio Via Del Mare in over a year and marked their debut in front of the home fans with a 3-1 victory over fellow new boys Ancona. The South American flair is an important element of their success, with Uruguayans Javier Chevanton and Guillermo Giacomazzi providing the goals. Teenager Mirko Vucinic should get a starting spot after he scored one and set up another in the Week 2 win.

Chievo are no longer a surprise to the Serie A sides and have struggled to make an impact so far this season. A 1-1 draw at Brescia was scrappily earned, while they lost a lead in the 2-1 home defeat to Juventus. Worryingly, both their goals have been scored by defenders – a Salvatore Lanna piledriver from midfield and Lorenzo D’Anna penalty kick. Perhaps Giuseppe Sculli’s new deeper role does not suit his goal-poacher characteristics.

Lecce (probable): Amelia; Siviglia, Silvestri, Stovini; Cassetti, Giacomazzi, Budel, Piangerelli, Tonetto; Chevanton, Vucinic

Chievo (probable): Marchegiani; Moro, Sala, D’Anna, Lanna; Santana, Perrotta, Morrone, Sculli; Cossato, Amauri
........................
Brescia - Reggina

Brescia-Reggina

Both sides are still looking for their first win of the season and this relegation dogfight could prove decisive by the end of the campaign.

Brescia must get back on track following their 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Roma. Gigi Di Biagio was bitterly criticised for his debut performance and must do better to get the fans on side. Pippo Maniero is also yet to score, but the return of Roberto Baggio should see the Rondinelle turn a new leaf. The Divine Ponytail has been out of action since undergoing routine knee surgery this summer.

Reggina have registered two consecutive draws against fellow relegation battlers Sampdoria and Empoli, but also highlighted a worrying trend. In both those games the Amaranto threw away a lead, in Samp’s case a 2-0 advantage cancelled out, and must work on their concentration.

Brescia (probable): Castellazzi; Martinez, Petruzzi, Dainelli; Filippini, Brighi, Di Biagio, Matuzalem, Mauri; Baggio, Maniero

Reggina (probable): Belardi; Jiranek, Sottil, Franceschini, Falsini; Mesto, Baiocco, Mozart; Cozza; Di Michele, Bonazzoli
´.................
Ancona - Modena

The only two teams yet to get off the mark face off in a battle to escape the foot of the table. This match could be on a knife-edge, as between them they have scored just one goal in the opening two encounters.

Ancona have perhaps the pedigree at this level, boasting former Piacenza hitmen Dario Hubner and Paolo Poggi, with veteran Maurizio Ganz ready to come off the bench. Ganz has so far netted their only goal since coming up from Serie B, and that was from the penalty spot in last week’s 3-1 defeat at Lecce. Fabio Bilica returns from a one-match ban to shore up the defence.

Modena understandably failed to pierce Francesco Toldo’s net in the Week 1 trip to the San Siro, but their lack of firepower against Udinese was a worrying sign. The Friuli outfit played with ten men for over an hour, but still managed to walk away with all three points.

With Diomansy Kamara also battling injury, Coach Alberto Malesani is under pressure to come up with more scoring options. Nicola Amoruso has now recovered from a minor thigh strain to start upfront.

Ancona (probable): Scarpi; Bolic, Bilica, Milanese; Russo, Berretta, Carrus, Di Francesco, Sussi; Poggi, Hubner

Modena (probable): Ballotta; Mayer, Cevoli, Ungari; Campedelli, Marasco, Milanetto, Balestri; Allegretti; Kamara, Amoruso
............
Siena-Empoli

Siena will be fired up following their unlucky defeat to Inter and look to extend Empoli’s poor start to the season.

The newly promoted Tuscans only bowed down to Hector Cuper’s side with an own goal and showed that they can certainly aim for a mid-table placing. Enrico Chiesa is key to their results, although Tore Andre Flo is struggling to recover from a thigh injury. Brazilian creative midfielder Rodrigo Taddei is back to full fitness and can cause problems to any defence.

Empoli are ever-more reliant on Antonio Di Natale and he has netted their only two goals so far this season. Their performance in the 1-1 draw with Reggina was disheartening and they must raise their game to avoid relegation.

Siena (probable): Rossi; Cirillo, Delli Carri, Mignani, Cufre; Guigou, D’Aversa, Ardito; Taddei, Lazetic; Chiesa

Empoli (probable): Bucci; Belleri, Cribari, Lucchini, Cupi; Grella, Giampieretti, Ficini; Busce’, Rocchi, Di Natale
-------------------
Sylvia - Boden

Spurs sack Hoddle

Tottenham have announced that they have parted company with manager Glenn Hoddle.
Hoddle had been under pressure after a miserable start to the season which saw his side pick up just four points from their first six games.

Director of football David Pleat will take over as caretaker manager and Chris Hughton will serve as first-team coach while a new manager is sought.

Club chairman Daniel Levy said in a statement on the club's website that he had told Hoddle of the decision to release him on Sunday evening.

"Following two seasons of disappointing results, there was a significant investment in the team during the summer, in order to give us the best possible chance of success this season," the statement said.

"Unfortunately, the start to this season has been our worst since the Premiership was formed.

"Coupled with the extremely poor second half to last season, the current lack of progress and any visible sign of improvement are unacceptable.

"It is critical that I, and the board, have absolute confidence in the manager to deliver success to the club.

"Regrettably we do not. It is not a decision we have taken lightly. However, we are determined to see this Club succeed and we must now move forward.

"Glenn occupies a special place at this club. Today's decision in no way detracts from the fact that he was one of our greatest players.

"He will always be welcome at White Hart Lane. I should like to personally thank him for his determination and commitment and wish him well.

"We shall be thorough in our search for a new manager. It is a crucial appointment and we shall take the time necessary to make the best choice."

Hoddle spent about £11m this summer on strikers Helder Postiga, Frederic Kanoute and Bobby Zamora after Spurs could only finish 10th in the league.

He is the first Premiership manager to lose his job this season.

Rangers manager Alex McLeish, Celtic's Martin O'Neill, Portsmouth's Harry Redknapp and Charlton's Alan Curbishley have all been linked with the White Hart Lane job. (SS, BBC)
