PARTIZAN BELGRADE v OLYMPIQUE MARSEILLE

Partizan, looking for a win that would be worth a UEFA Cup place, will miss Nigeria defender Taribo West, sidelined with a niggling knee injury, but will be bolstered by midfielder Vladimir Ivic's return to full fitness and good form after a six-month asbence with a foot fracture.

Manager Lothar Matthaeus is likely to field an attacking 3-5-2 formation with Ivic and skipper Sasa Ilic directing play in the centre of midfiled, while Andrija Delibasic and Ivica Iliev are once again the favourites to start up front.

Marseille players picked up a number of injuries in their 2-1 defeat by leaders Monaco on Friday.

Swiss midfielder Fabio Celestini will miss the Belgrade game with a back injury but goalkeeper Vedran Runje and centre back Philippe Christanval should be fit.

Besiktas v Chelsea: Preview

PA

GELSENKIRCHEN, December 8 (Champions League) - Chelsea were today accused of giving in to terrorism by the manager and captain of Turkish champions Besiktas.

Mircea Lucescu and Tayfur are upset the Londoners protested against playing their final Champions League Group G match in Istanbul, and believe UEFA were wrong to move tomorrow night's clash to a neutral venue at the Aufschalke Arena in Germany instead.

The match was switched when UEFA decided it was unsafe for any team to travel to Turkey following recent terrorist attacks in the capital.

There were reports that Paul Smith, acting chief executive at Stamford Bridge, wrote to Europe's governing body requesting a switch, although the decision was taken entirely by UEFA.

Two years ago six Chelsea players refused to travel to Israel for a UEFA Cup tie against Hapoel Tel Aviv because of terrorist fears.

Besiktas coach Lucescu said: ``I tried to put myself in Chelsea's position but I do not understand them. If the same thing was happening in England I am sure we would have gone to play there - for me this is not fair play.

``London is like Istanbul in terms of similar inhabitants and culture and life must continue - life must go on. We have fought alongside England against terrorism and I was surprised Chelsea involved international politics.''

Skipper Tayfur added: ``Sure there were some bombs in Istanbul which made UEFA take the decision but it is not fair not to play this game there. If this happened in England we would go there and play - you do not have to give in to terrorism and show you are scared.''

Chelsea coach Claudio Ranieri tried to appease Turkish journalists here by telling them he would have been happy to go to Istanbul.

He said: ``I wanted to play in Istanbul. I went there a month ago and enjoyed the welcome from I received from the Turkish people. We respect the Turkish people but UEFA said we must play this game in Gelsenkirchen and we cannot do any more.''

The decision to move the match could ultimately backfire on the Blues, as they are likely to face a hostile atmosphere in the Arena AufSchalke , the home of Schalke and venue for this season's Champions League final.

A total of 52,000 tickets have been sold for the game and a UEFA spokesman said that after taking an allocation of 900 tickets, Chelsea sold just one third of them - which means they will encounter a passionate and intimidating Turkish crowd.

Chelsea need only a point to go through to the last 16 as group winners - which might help them avoid the likes of Real Madrid, AC Milan and Juventus - and although Ranieri said his team would be playing to win, he insisted they had no reason to fear anybody in the knockout stages next year.

``For me it is not important who we play,'' said Ranieri. ``If we fear anybody in the Champions League then we are not going to win it, and I have every confidence in my players.''

Ranieri's main decision will be who plays up front against the only team to have beaten them at Stamford Bridge this season.

Argentinian striker Hernan Crespo did not travel after suffering a calf injury at Leeds on Saturday while Romanian Adrian Mutu is one yellow card away from being suspended for the next match.

Besiktas have doubts over Ronaldo Guiaro after he missed a training session and Ahmet Dursun will miss out after travelling to Germany for treatment on an injury that will keep him out until after the Turkish winter break.

Ronaldo is expected to recover in time to face the Blues whilst Roman Dobrowski is back in contention.

Coach Mircea Lucescu will decide on if Kaan Dobra will play in the game. Ronaldo Guiaro will play and they have no players missing other than Federico Giunti, who is suspended.

Sparta Prague v Lazio: Preview

PA

Level on five points apiece in third and fourth place, both sides are expected to attack as only a win will give them a chance of qualifying ahead of Besiktas.

Injuries to Jiri Nemec (knee) and Pavel Krmas (back), combined with a must-win situation for Sparta means coach Jiri Kotrba will field just one defensive midfielder for the first time.

Stopper Petr Johana is back from suspension, while striker Igor Gluscevic could return after ending a three-and-half-month goal drought in the Czech league.

Lazio prepare for the game in high spirits after beating Italian champions Juventus 2-0 at the weekend, though the victory claimed several casualties.

Injuries to strikers Claudio Lopez and Roberto Muzzi leave coach Roberto Mancini little back-up for his regular front two, Bernardo Corradi and Simone Inzaghi.

Midfielder Giuliano Giannichedda also limped off against Juve and should be replaced by Ousmane Dabo, while defender Sinisa Mihajlovic sits out the second game of an eight-match ban.

Probable teams:

Sparta: 29-Jaromir Blazek; 4-Pavel Pergl, 16-Tomas Huebschman, 17-Petr Johana, 3-Vladimir Labant; 8-Karel Poborsky, 15-Radoslav Kovac, 7-Lukas Zelenka, 10-Rastislav Michalik; 27-Igor Gluscevic, 14-Libor Sionko

Lazio: 1-Angelo Peruzzi; 31-Jaap Stam, 23-Paolo Negro, 24-Fernando Couto, 19-Giuseppe Favalli; 14-Stefano Fiore, 4-Demetrio Albertini, 6-Ousmane Dabo, 10-Dejan Stankovic; 9-Bernardo Corradi, 21-Simone Inzaghi.

Man Utd v VfB Stuttgart: Preview

PA

MANCHESTER, England, Dec 8 (Reuters) - Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson wants his team to play for pride when they take on VfB Stuttgart in the Champions League at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

Both teams have qualified for the knock-out stages of the competition but a win for United would allow them to top Group E and avoid meeting another group winner in the last 16.

Ferguson, who confirmed that England international Paul Scholes will start his first game since October 22 following injury, does not know how much of advantage that will be.

But he is determined to reverse their 2-1 defeat in Stuttgart earlier in the qualifying stage.

"Looking at the (other) groups right now, I couldn't tell you who's going to go through," Ferguson told a news conference on Monday.

"It's difficult to say. First or second might not even matter in some of the groups.

"Why I would like to win the game is because our home record is so good at Old Trafford in the last few years and I want to maintain that.

"It's essential that the pride factor shows itself in games like this."

The English champions are unbeaten in their last 15 Champions League games at Old Trafford, winning 12 of them.

United winger Ryan Giggs said: "It gives players confidence, winning the group. Every team that goes through will be a quality team so it may not matter who tops the group,

"But it matters to us and to the fans. And we want to maintain that record."

Scholes made his return from groin surgery as a substitute in United's premier league win over Aston Villa.

United may need all their attacking options against a Stuttgart side that has conceded just three league goals all season in the Bundesliga, which they top.

"They are in a good position. We have to win the match and they will be hard to break down," Ferguson said. "We can't afford to go behind because it will be difficult to peg them back."

VfB Stuttgart coach Felix Magath has everyone fit and available with the exception of Brazilian central defender Macelo Bordon, who is recovering from groin surgery.

The Bundesliga leaders, who beat Manchester United 2-1 in Stuttgart in October and have won their last four group games, extended their unbeaten run in the German league to 15 games with a 0-0 home draw with Hamburg SV on Saturday.

'It is great to be able to play at Old Trafford without necessarily having to win,' said keeper Timo Hildebrand.

Probable teams:

Manchester United: 13-Roy Carroll; 2-Gary Neville, 5-Rio Ferdinand, 27-Mikael Silvestre, 22-John O'Shea; 25-Quinton Fortune, 3-Phil Neville, 18-Paul Scholes, 11-Ryan Giggs; 10-Ruud Van Nistelrooy, 21-Diego Forlan.

Stuttgart: 1-Timo Hildebrand; 2-Andreas Hinkel, 6-Fernando Meira, 3-Timo Wenzel, 21-Philipp Lahm; 20-Zvonimir Soldo, 8-Jurica Vranjes, 16-Horst Heldt, 15-Alexander Gleb; 22-Kevin Kuranyi, 19-Imre Szabics.

Rangers v Panathinaikos: Preview

PA

Rangers manager Alex McLeish is sweating over the fitness of Shota Arveladze ahead of their Champions League clash against Panathinaikos.

The Georgian striker has missed the last two games with a knee injury and McLeish will watch him in training before making any decisions over his fitness.

A point against Panathinaikos would be enough for Rangers to beat the Greek side to a UEFA Cup spot.

Rangers are only too aware now how costly their last result against Panathinaikos was - they conceded a late equaliser when seemingly set for a win that could have made all the difference to their Champions League campaign.

But McLeish is adamant his players will not make the same mistakes again.

He said: "We know that they have a great Champions League pedigree. To go to Athens and take a point isn't something people would have expected us to do but anyone who saw the game knows that we had a good opportunity to take all three points.

"We have learnt lessons from the game that a game is not won until the final whistle."

Rangers' home record in the Champions League has been decent enough so far.

They became the first team this season to score against Stuttgart when they claimed a 2-1 win and McLeish's men were unfortunate not to earn a draw against Manchester United.

McLeish hopes a similar display will be enough to end Panathinaikos' involvement in Europe this season.

He added: "It's a one-off and we have a home game in front of our own fans.

"Panathinaikos need to travel here and whether they will be apprehensive about that I don't know.

"But if we had to go over there, we would be saying it would be very difficult so hopefully they are saying the same.

"We have played well in our previous two home games in the Champions League and we are looking for another good performance."

Preview: Sheffield United v Walsall

Defender Rob Kozluk is back in contention for Sheffield United's home clash with Walsall.

The versatile 26-year-old sat out the weekend defeat at Burnley due to a one-match suspension.

Striker Ashley Ward is ruled out with a hamstring injury while defender Chris Morgan is doubtful after limping out of the action with a knee injury over the weekend.

Summer signing Jack Lester could make the squad following an ear infection, while on-loan goalkeeper Alan Fettis will make his first start for United.

Jet-set midfielder Vinny Samways is poised for a return to first-team contention despite having fallen foul of boss Colin Lee.

Samways had been a surprise omission from the side which laboured to a 1-0 victory over Bradford, with Lee later confirming the influential 35-year-old had been left out of the team following a "disciplinary problem".

But Samways, who commutes from his home in Spain, was back in training on Monday and is expected to feature at Bramall Lane.

Lee has no fresh injury worries or suspensions to contend with.

Preview: Crystal Palace v Crewe

Crystal Palace caretaker manager Kit Symons will keep his place for the visit of Crewe despite being sent off at Preston.

Symons was dismissed for a professional foul in the 4-1 defeat, but will line up at the heart of defence. But he looks set to ditch the cautious approach and go for goals against Crewe at Selhurst Park.

Symons dropped 10-goal striker Dougie Freedman at Deepdale, but is set to reinstate him with Palace now only two points from the drop zone.

Defenders Darren Powell and Jame Smith (both thigh) are still missing and striker Andy Johnson is out with an ankle injury.

Ben Rix is out of the trip after a scan revealed he has cracked a bone in his toe.

The midfielder picked up the injury in the 1-1 draw with Gillingham, hobbling off in the 58th minute to be replaced by Richard Walker.

Boss Dario Gradi is also sweating on the fitness of Walker, who failed to complete the game after picking up an ankle injury. David Vaughan also remains doubtful.

He was not risked against Gillingham after failing to fully recover from a knee injury sustained against Norwich the previous week.

Preview: Cardiff City v Preston

Cardiff manager Lennie Lawrence will be forced to make one change for the visit of Preston to Ninian Park.

Winger Julian Gray's two-month loan spell has finished, meaning Mark Bonner is likely to replace him.

Cardiff are still unable to call on skipper Graham Kavanagh (ankle), Alan Lee (cartilage), Jason Bowen (hamstring), Scott Young (back), Gareth Whalley (tendonitis) and Rhys Weston (cartilage).

Preston manager Craig Brown looks set to name an unchanged side for the tough trip.

George Koumantarakis (calf and hamstring), Rob Edwards and Lee Briscoe (both hamstring) remain on the sidelines with long-term ailments, but Brown reported a clean bill of health following Saturday's 4-1 thrashing of Crystal Palace at Deepdale.

Chris Lucketti (knee) and Paul McKenna (calf) reported no ill-effects from their run-outs against the Eagles, and should retain their starting spots for the Ninian Park clash.

Preview: Bradford City v WBA

Bradford's Danny Cadamarteri has received a major injury blow ahead of the home game with West Brom.

Cadamarteri had hoped to be nearing a return from a calf problem that kept him out of Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Walsall.

However, the striker could now be out for up to four weeks after undergoing a scan on Monday.

West Brom boss Gary Megson is without captain and central defender Sean Gregan for the trip.

Gregan will be forced to miss the Valley Parade clash as he serves a one-game suspension imposed for an accumulation of five bookings.

A question mark lingers over the fitness of striker Danny Dichio who has fallen victim to suspected hernia and hip problems.

Dichio was forced to limp out of Saturday's 1-1 draw with West Ham after just 37 minutes and the Baggies frontman will undergo a late assessment before the Division One leaders head for Yorkshire.

Preview: West Ham v Stoke City

Rob Lee will miss West Ham's clash with Stoke at Upton Park after being told he needs surgery on a knee injury.

The Hammers midfielder has been nursing the injury for the last four weeks and will undergo an operation to solve the problem.

Matthew Etherington remains doubtful with a thigh injury, while Jermain Defoe is serving the last match of a ban.

Neil Mellor is still out with a foot injury and Steve Lomas is not yet ready to return from a long-running ankle injury.

Stoke manager Tony Pulis has no new injury or suspension concerns.

Clint Hill has gone under the knife to rectify an ankle problem and will be out of action for the next six weeks while Paul Williams is also sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Meanwhile, midfielder Kris Commons is pushing for a place in the starting XI after another impressive showing from off the substitutes' bench in the 3-2 defeat at home to Cardiff on Saturday.

Preview: Carlisle v Sheffield Wednesday

Carlisle United manager Paul Simpson has pledged to field his strongest possible team for the LDV Vans Trophy visit of Sheffield Wednesday.

Simpson himself is struggling to overcome a virus in time to play, although he is hopeful of being able to get through the 90 minutes against the Owls.

Peter Murphy (knee) and Kevin Gray (cup-tied) are definitely out, while Des Byrne faces an eight-week lay-off after damaging knee ligaments in reserve-team action last week.

Mark Robins has completed his move from Rotherham and will make his debut at Brunton Park.

The journeyman striker will go straight into the side, while defender Dean Smith will also return after missing the FA Cup draw at Scunthorpe due to chicken pox.

Midfielder Laurie Wilson - son of Bristol City boss Danny - will make his first-team debut after making an appearance as substitute at Glanford Park and Guylain N'Dumbu will also start after stepping off the bench to score on Saturday.

Boss Chris Turner has no new injury or suspension worries

Preview: Northampton v Peterborough

Northampton manager Colin Calderwood will welcome back loan defender Matt Sadler for the LDV Vans Trophy southern section quarter-final with Peterborough.

The Birmingham youngster was declined permission to play in last weekend's FA Cup victory over Weston-super-Mare but will be eligible to face Barry Fry's side.

The Cobblers are still without Chris Carruthers, who is representing England in the World Youth Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

Paul Reid (knee) and Ashley Westwood (shoulder) did not feature at the weekend but could return to the squad.

Jerry Gill is training again after a knee injury but will not feature, while Tom Youngs (knee) and Peter Clark (foot) remain sidelined.

Peterborough manager Barry Fry will still be without loan striker Calum Willock.

The Fulham youngster has again missed training with the hamstring injury which kept him out of Saturday's 3-2 win over Grimsby.

Sagi Burton was an unused substitute against the Mariners and will again be named in the squad.

Preview: Southend v Luton Town

Southend have received positive injury news on Jamie Fullarton, but he will not be fit to face Luton in the LDV Vans Trophy southern section quarter-final.

Tests have discovered that Fullarton's groin injury is not as serious as feared, and he is expected to be fit to return to the first-team picture in three weeks.

Jamie Stuart has had a cortisone injection to aid his recovery from a pelvis injury but is still short of fitness and Duncan Jupp remains sidelined with a fractured toe.

Town captain Kevin Nicholls is set to return to the squad after over three months out with a knee injury.

Nicholls suffered a setback during his rehabilitation from the injury but is now fully recovered.

Matthew Spring is also available again after serving a ban.

Spring sat out the 2-0 FA Cup win over Rochdale after collecting five bookings, but is now back in contention.

Peter Holmes is set to play some part after recovering from a groin injury, and Kevin Foley (ankle) could also feature.

Alan Neilson (calf) Russell Perrett (groin) and Paul Hughes (broken leg) are not expected back until the New Year.

Preview: Wycombe v Colchester United

Tony Adams is set to test Wycombe's young talent against Colchester in the LDV Vans Trophy.

Wycombe are bottom of Division Two, and Adams is looking for new faces to freshen up their survival bid.

Mark Philo and Nathaniel Griffiths are both in contention to make their first-team debuts, and Charlie Mapes could also start.

Midfielder Billy Harding is serving the last game of a three-match ban, and Michael Simpson will not be risked.

Simpson is back in full training after his recent knee injury, but is not yet ready for a recall.

Colchester manager Phil Parkinson looks set to name an unchanged starting line-up.

Parkinson has reported a clean bill of health following the 1-0 victory over Aldershot in the FA Cup at the weekend, and revealed it will "probably be the same again".

Jamie Cade finds himself cup-tied from a second competition in four days, while Craig Fagan serves the second game of a three-match suspension.

Milan Vs Celta

Milan comes to this game and only one thing is on there mind there trip to Japan to meet ((Boca.))

There will be big changes in there line up against Celta and in the odds of the bookies too

7 important players will not play in the game (Paolo Maldini, Alessandro Nesta, Marcus Cafú, Giuseppe Pancaro, Iván Gennaro Gattuso, Andrea Pirlo and Andreiy Shevchenko).

The players that will play to not lose, (Dida, Clarence Seedorf,Manuel Rui Costa y Filippo Inzaghi) they will not be motivated and they will be afraid to get injured

Celta only have Champions League left because they are doing very badly in Liga. They will be very motivated (Lotina, Celta´s coach, said: "We do not have any excuse not to win in Milan")

So I don’t see why not bet agent Milan in this game I am afraid for one thing if celta is not wining in there Liga against poor teems haw will they win Milan reserves players (BetAgainst)
