Don't know if international friendlies is your cup of tea, but there are nice odds available (probably won't last long) for Norway to win over Wales on Thursday 27th. Best offer among the bookmakers I use is 1.80 at Premierbet, and second best is 1.72 (Ladbrokes, Gamebookers and several others)

Norway take these friendly games very seriously and have won all 6 games (the last two against Serbia Montenegro (away) and Russia (home)) since new coach Hareide took over a few months back. They should normally have no problems beating a full strength Wales, and on Thursday Wales are without most of their star players: Striker John Hartson, wingers Ryan Giggs and Simon Davies, midfielders Gary Speed and Robbie Savage and goalkeeper Paul Jones are all out. There are some rumors that Craig Bellamy will play, but I've also heard that he's not fully recovered from injury and that he won't play from start.

Coach Hareide is building up a new (and so far successful) team and looks ahead for qualification for next World Championship in 2 years. He has had a flying start with 6 wins in a row and the team seems confident and looks like they enjoy themselves on the field (unlike the miserable bunch we had about a year back with the previous coach).

Nothing for the big money (it's a friendly match after all) but I find odds around 1.80 very attractive, so I put a medium stake on it.

Martyn Margetson's hopes of winning his first Wales cap have taken a blow.

The Cardiff goalkeeper missed Wednesday's training session with a back problem and is now doubtful for Thursday's friendly against Norway.

West Brom's Jason Koumas (Achilles) and Reading's Adrian Williams (flu) are also likely to be missing in Oslo.

But manager Mark Hughes will at least be able to call on Craig Bellamy, who joined the squad after 11 players pulled out of the original party.

"Within 20 minutes of me naming the squad he (Bellamy) was on the phone asking why he was not picked," said Hughes.

"That shows how keen he is to play for Wales. With Robert Earnshaw alongside him up front we have some real pace."

An injury-ravaged Wales look likely to name Mark Delaney as captain for the game in Oslo.

Delaney commits to Villa
With a host of senior players - including usual skipper Gary Speed - missing, the 27-year-old Aston Villa defender is the leading candidate.

"If it does come along it will be a tremendous honour," said Delaney.

"I have only previously captained a side in non-league football when I was with Carmarthen, but a lot of people tell me I have the right credentials."


Delaney is expected to be handed the captaincy
"It would be a very proud moment, particularly after what has ended up as a very disappointing season."

Speed, Simon Davies, Robert Page and Mark Crossley are on the casualty list, while Ryan Giggs is out of the Norway game but could play against Canada at Wrexham on Sunday.

Robbie Savage, Andy Melville, Paul Jones, Rhys Weston, Christian Roberts and Eifion Williams are also out.

Melville and Roberts will be involved in the Nationwide League play-off, Williams and Weston are injured while Jones will be on his honeymoon.

Hughes, therefore, could field a side with an average age of 24 and just 111 caps between them.
