ATHENS, Dec 6 (Reuters) - Greece midfielder Angelos Basinas may be missing from the Panathinaikos team for their final Champions League Group E game against PSV Eindhoven on Tuesday.
Basinas, who played a full 90 minutes in the 1-0 defeat by arch-rivals Olympiakos Piraeus on Saturday, has been suffering from a back strain and may not be risked if coach Zdenek Scasny feels it will jeopardise his fitness.
Panathinaikos go into the game knowing they need to do better than Arsenal to progress to the knock-out stage of the tournament.
Currently lying third in the group and assured of going into the last 32 of the UEFA Cup, they need to beat PSV Eindhoven, who have qualified, and hope Rosenborg Trondheim take at least a point from their game at Arsenal.
Fulfilling the first part of the equation will be difficult enough, especially if Basinas, their key playmaker this season, is not fit.
In spite of gaining two creditable draws against Arsenal, they have struggled for consistency and slipped to a confidence-sapping defeat in Piraeus at the weekend, beaten by a Rivaldo free kick which left them third in the league.
PSV, meanwhile, have a five-point lead at the top of the Dutch league after a 4-0 win over De Graafschap on Saturday.
They broke a 33-year-old Dutch record in that match by not conceding a goal for 1,110 minutes, but will be without Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink (shoulder), John de Jong (knee) and Theo Lucius (illness and thigh).
They also have doubts about Andre Ooijer (ankle), Young-Pyo Lee (thigh) and DaMarcus Beasley (ankle), but at least they know that whatever the outcome of the match they have made it through from the group phase for the first time in nine attempts.

PARIS, Dec 6 (Reuters) - Paris St Germain, desperate to salvage a disappointing season, hope CSKA Moscow will be ring-rusty in their do-or-die Champions League game on Tuesday.
The Parisians have little realistic hope of winning the French title and are second in Group H, level on five points with European champions Porto who play host to Chelsea.
The London side have already qualified for the tournament's knock-out stage. CSKA, whose domestic season finished in mid-November, have four points.
"We still have a chance of making it to the next round after a very poor start," said captain Jose Pierre-Fanfan. "But we know very little about the Moscow side.
"Their championship has been over for three weeks now and I guess it gives us some advantage."
Paris were beaten 2-0 by CSKA in September, shortly after losing 3-0 at home to Chelsea. "What we need is to win, we don't have to worry about anything else," Pierre-Fanfan said.
Paris's recent results -- including a 1-1 draw with Lille at the weekend -- revealed a lack of goal-scoring talent.
"The defence is not a problem but we are still experiencing problems when attacking. We just hope all the fans will be there to support us," Pierre-Fanfan said.
Coach Vahid Halilhodzic is banned from the touchline for two months after arguing with the referee during a league match.
CSKA coach Valery Gazzayev remains optimistic.
"We have one more match to play and until that game is finished, we still have a chance," Gazzayev said.
"Our future is still in our hands as we know a win in Paris would guarantee us at least a UEFA Cup spot."
Gazzayev's team held a mini-training camp in Spain last week after their domestic season ended and, unlike PSG, have major injury worries.
Brazilian striker Daniel Carvalho, who saw only limited action during his first season in Moscow after a transfer from Internacional, has been ruled out with a groin pull.
Croatia striker Ivica Olic (thigh) and Nigerian full back Chidi Odiah (shoulder) remain in the team, although both have only a slim chance to play on Tuesday.

MADRID, Dec 6 (Reuters) - Werder Bremen and Valencia geared up for Tuesday's Champions League Group G showdown with domestic victories at the weekend but it will be the German side that approach the game in more optimistic mood.
Valencia snatched a late 1-0 win over lowly Albacete thanks to a deflected strike from winger Xisco, but Werder were in irresistible form as they smashed six past basement side SC Freiburg.
Werder have an injury doubt over striker Ivan Klasnic, who has a damaged shoulder, but that is unlikely to worry coach Thomas Schaaf after his forwards gave such a devastating performance against Freiburg.
Miroslav Klose scored two inside the opening 23 minutes and Angelos Haristeas added a hat-trick, with French midfielder Johan Micoud capping a classy display with the other goal.
A draw or even a 2-1 defeat against Valencia would be enough to take the German champions through but after such an exhilarating attacking display Schaaf is keen to see the same sort of attitude against the Spaniards.
"We could go there just looking for a goalless draw but we know we have a lot of potential in attack," said Schaaf. "We should take advantage of that.
"We will avoid the temptation to sit back and defend."
A victory and defeat for Inter in their final game against Anderlecht could even send the German side through to the next round as group winners.
Spanish champions Valencia have bounced back from a wretched run by putting together a four-match winning streak but they are still far from their fluent best.
A succession of injury problems has blighted the team's progress this season and coach Claudio Ranieri will once again have to make do without several key players for the must-win game against Werder.
The versatile Miguel Angel Angulo and central midfielder David Albelda are still struggling with thigh problems, while left winger Vicente and centre-back Roberto Ayala are unlikely to play even though they are in the final stages of recovery from long-term injuries.
But despite his selection worries and the fact that his team is still not playing well, Ranieri says he is encouraged by his side getting back to winning ways.
"We are still having problems but the most important thing is that the victories have given us a valuable boost ahead of the Werder game," the Italian said after the Albacete match.
Valencia, who have qualified for the knockout stages every time they have played in the Champions League, have never lost to a German side at the Mestalla, but will need to win 1-0 or by two clear goals if they want to secure a place in the last 16 this time round.

BARCA HIT BY STRING OF INJURIES
Barcelona's mounting injury list has seen coach Frank Rijkaard include 11 youth team players in his squad to travel to the Ukraine for Tuesday's Champions League clash against Shakhtar Donetsk.
The latest star to fall victim to an ailment is forward Ludovic Giuly, who missed the weekend match against Malaga with a thigh strain and joins the likes of Thiago Motta, Edmilson, Gabri, Gerard, Henrik Larsson and goalkeeper Albert Jorquera on the sidelines.
Fortunately for Rijkaard, the match against Shakhtar is not pivotal to Barca's European hopes as they have already guaranteed qualification from Group F after picking up 10 points from their opening five games.
That puts the Spanish side two points behind group leaders AC Milan, who complete their schedule away at Celtic on Tuesday.
The injury absences did not affect Barca too much at the weekend as they put four past Malaga without reply to stretch their lead at the top of the Primera Liga to nine points over Real Madrid.
And with that performance in mind, Rijkaard has named virtually the same squad for the game against Shakhtar with the only new addition being youngster Rodri Garcia. He replaces full-back Damia Abella who was not registered for the Champions League at the start of the season.
One player who is making the most of the spate of injuries is Spain Under-21 international Andres Iniesta, who replaced Giuly at the weekend and showed yet again why he is tipped for great things, terrorising the Malaga defence as well as scoring Barca's third goal.
"I was surprised to see myself in the headlines after the match but what is really pleasing for me is that the team is continuing its good run," Iniesta said.
"All I can say is thank you very much to the fans because each time that I go onto the pitch I know that I am not on my own."
He added: "We now play against Donetsk where we will go to win, there is no other objective, and then later after that we can start thinking about our next match against Albacete.
"What I want to do now, as do all my team-mates, is to try and finish in first place in our Champions League group although we realise that this is not going to be an easy task."
Although they have lost four of their opening five matches in the group, Shakhtar still have a chance of pipping Celtic for third spot and a place in the UEFA Cup.
The Scottish side are currently third in the standings, a point clear of Shakhtar.
Shakhtar, who warmed up for the game with a 3-1 Premier League win over Volyn last week, are waiting on the fitness of key defender Anatoliy Tymoschuk.
The Ukraine international is struggling with an injury but coach Mircea Lucescu is hoping he will be available to play some part in the match.
"Anatoli trains, runs, and works hard. He is feeling good physically, the only question is if he can kick the ball. It would be great if he could play, if not - we have replacements," Lucescu said.
Lucescu will definitely be without defender Razvan Rat and striker Ciprian Marica.
Marica will be out of action for around three weeks as he needs a knee operation.

Manchester United's second string headed out to Turkey for Wednesday night's Champions League dead rubber against Fenerbahce with Darren Fletcher insisting the Red Devils can repeat their momentous 1999 triumph.
With qualification secure and only a position at the top of Group D to fight for, Sir Alex Ferguson opted to take what amounted to his Carling Cup squad to Istanbul.
Only Cristiano Ronaldo of the side that defeated Southampton at the weekend was on board the flight, with 20-year-old Darren Fletcher one of the most experienced players.
"We are looking for a good performance from a young team," said the Scotland international.
"Our aim is to top the group but overall we feel confident we can win the entire competition.
"We have performed well in Europe this season and while there are obviously some quality sides in there we have to back ourselves."
Ferguson has already indicated the difference between finishing winners or runners-up in the group is minimal.
Italian giants Juventus and AC Milan could lie in wait if United fail to triumph and Lyon defeat Sparta Prague while Spanish duo Barcelona and Real Madrid could be their next opponents if they maintain their current advantage over the French outfit.
"It is important for our own professional pride to try and win tomorrow but we won't know whether finishing first or second is an advantage until we get the draw," said Fletcher.
"The main thing is the players on this trip show their potential and prove they are worthy of playing for Manchester United."

With qualification secure and only a position at the top of Group D to fight for, Sir Alex Ferguson opted to take what amounted to his Carling Cup squad to Istanbul.
Only Cristiano Ronaldo of the side that defeated Southampton at the weekend was on board the flight, with 20-year-old Darren Fletcher one of the most experienced players.
"We are looking for a good performance from a young team," said the Scotland international.
"Our aim is to top the group but overall we feel confident we can win the entire competition.
"We have performed well in Europe this season and while there are obviously some quality sides in there we have to back ourselves."
Ferguson has already indicated the difference between finishing winners or runners-up in the group is minimal.
Italian giants Juventus and AC Milan could lie in wait if United fail to triumph and Lyon defeat Sparta Prague while Spanish duo Barcelona and Real Madrid could be their next opponents if they maintain their current advantage over the French outfit.
"It is important for our own professional pride to try and win tomorrow but we won't know whether finishing first or second is an advantage until we get the draw," said Fletcher.
"The main thing is the players on this trip show their potential and prove they are worthy of playing for Manchester United."

ROME, Dec 7 (Reuters) - Nine-times European champions Real Madrid risk slipping out of the Champions League with barely a whimper on Wednesday when they take on AS Roma at a deserted Olympic Stadium.
The Spanish side must win the Group B game to guarantee a place in the knockout phase of the competition, and with Roma already eliminated from Europe their main enemy could be the deadening atmosphere at the game, which will be played behind closed doors.
The prospect of playing in an empty stadium prompted Real coach Garcia Remon to lead training at a deserted Bernabeu last week to prepare his players for what awaits them in the Italian capital.
Real clearly had one eye on the Roma game on Sunday when a weakened team gave a lacklustre performance in their 0-0 draw at Villarreal.
Missing Luis Figo, Zinedine Zidane, Roberto Carlos, Raul and Guti they failed to create any clear scoring chances and were fortunate to emerge from the game with a point.
But the performance failed to dim Roberto Carlos's optimism about his side's chances against the Italians, whom they defeated on their previous two visits to the Olympic stadium.
"This is the most important game of the season so far," he said. "We want to continue in the Champions League and we are confident of getting a great result in Rome.
STRONG GROUP
"I'm convinced we will go through because we have a very strong group of players and then we will go on to reach the final."
Dynamo Kiev top the group on 10 points, with Bayer Leverkusen and Real both on eight.
Because of their inferior head-to-head record against the Germans, a draw would be enough for Real only if Leverkusen lose at home to Kiev.
Apart from the long-term absence of Jonathan Woodgate, Real's only injury worry is Figo, but the Portuguese winger looks to have shaken off a minor ankle niggle and should play.
Figo's return will mean that David Beckham, who will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of his first appearance in the Champions League, will move back to a central midfield position after two undistinguished performances on the right.
The game will also mark the return of Argentine defender Walter Samuel to the Olympic stadium, following his 25 million euro ($33.62 million) move to Real at the end of last season.
With Roma rooted to the bottom of the group on one point, coach Luigi Del Neri has admitted his priorities lie with Serie A.
"The match against Real doesn't interest me, even if - naturally - we'll try to make a good impression," he said after a 1-1 draw with Sampdoria at the weekend.
Del Neri is likely to rest his team's leading scorer Vincenzo Montella and striker Antonio Cassano, who is suffering with a thigh strain.
Roma captain Francesco Totti, however, is expected to make the starting 11.

MADRID, Dec 7 (Reuters) - Last season's losing finalists Monaco are aiming to reignite a disappointing campaign by booking their place in the last 16 of the Champions League with a win over already eliminated Deportivo Coruna on Wednesday.
The team from the principality received a major boost ahead of the Group A match at the Riazor when they ended a 10-match winless streak in the league with a 2-0 victory over Stade Rennes at the weekend.
"Winning is always positive and this win will help to relax us," coach Didier Deschamps said after the match. "At least we rediscovered the taste of victory even if it wasn't a perfect performance.
"We were more confident and relaxed. We didn't concede a goal and, in the first half, we played with a lot more determination and conviction."
Second in the group behind Olympiakos, Monaco know that victory will guarantee them a place in the next round, but that they could also progress if they draw or lose as long as Liverpool do not beat the Greeks at Anfield.
Monaco crushed Deportivo 8-3 at home in last season's group stage, but lost 1-0 at the Riazor and have never won in Spain in European competition.
"We need to look for a result but without taking too many risks," said Argentine midfielder Lucas Bernardi. "Deportivo may not be as good as they were last season but they are still a good team and you can't afford to leave them any space to play."
MONACO ABSENTEES
Monaco will be without forward Shabani Nonda, who strained a thigh muscle in the Rennes match, while influential midfielder Jaroslav Plasil and defender Julien Rodriguez are also out injured.
French international defender Sebastien Squillaci, who was replaced at halftime against Rennes, is doubtful but Italian keeper Flavio Roma should be available despite missing the match at the weekend.
Losing semi-finalists last season, Deportivo are already consigned to a disappointing fourth-place finish after failing to score in any of their previous five group matches and coach Javier Irureta is set to field a second-string side in their final fixture.
Uruguayan keeper Gustavo Munua, and defensive trio Hector and Pablo Amo are all likely to be given run-outs, while Walter Pandiani, who scored a last-gasp equaliser in Sunday's 2-2 draw at Racing Santander, will start up front alongside Albert Luque.
But although Depor do not even have a chance of gaining a consolation place in the UEFA Cup, Irureta has insisted that victory is still important to his side.
"We have to beat Monaco for the sake of prestige and pride," he said. "There is money at stake too. It isn't normal for us not to have won any of our five games so far. We need to end this run and finish off with a win to please our fans."

ROME, Dec 7 (Reuters) - Nine-times European champions Real Madrid risk slipping out of the Champions League with barely a whimper on Wednesday when they take on AS Roma at a deserted Olympic Stadium.
The Spanish side must win the Group B game to guarantee a place in the knockout phase of the competition, and with Roma already eliminated from Europe their main enemy could be the deadening atmosphere at the game, which will be played behind closed doors.
The prospect of playing in an empty stadium prompted Real coach Garcia Remon to lead training at a deserted Bernabeu last week to prepare his players for what awaits them in the Italian capital.
Real clearly had one eye on the Roma game on Sunday when a weakened team gave a lacklustre performance in their 0-0 draw at Villarreal.
Missing Luis Figo, Zinedine Zidane, Roberto Carlos, Raul and Guti they failed to create any clear scoring chances and were fortunate to emerge from the game with a point.
But the performance failed to dim Roberto Carlos's optimism about his side's chances against the Italians, whom they defeated on their previous two visits to the Olympic stadium.
"This is the most important game of the season so far," he said. "We want to continue in the Champions League and we are confident of getting a great result in Rome.
STRONG GROUP
"I'm convinced we will go through because we have a very strong group of players and then we will go on to reach the final."
Dynamo Kiev top the group on 10 points, with Bayer Leverkusen and Real both on eight.
Because of their inferior head-to-head record against the Germans, a draw would be enough for Real only if Leverkusen lose at home to Kiev.
Apart from the long-term absence of Jonathan Woodgate, Real's only injury worry is Figo, but the Portuguese winger looks to have shaken off a minor ankle niggle and should play.
Figo's return will mean that David Beckham, who will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of his first appearance in the Champions League, will move back to a central midfield position after two undistinguished performances on the right.
The game will also mark the return of Argentine defender Walter Samuel to the Olympic stadium, following his 25 million euro ($33.62 million) move to Real at the end of last season.
With Roma rooted to the bottom of the group on one point, coach Luigi Del Neri has admitted his priorities lie with Serie A.
"The match against Real doesn't interest me, even if - naturally - we'll try to make a good impression," he said after a 1-1 draw with Sampdoria at the weekend.
Del Neri is likely to rest his team's leading scorer Vincenzo Montella and striker Antonio Cassano, who is suffering with a thigh strain.
Roma captain Francesco Totti, however, is expected to make the starting 11.

MADRID, Dec 7 (Reuters) - Last season's losing finalists Monaco are aiming to reignite a disappointing campaign by booking their place in the last 16 of the Champions League with a win over already eliminated Deportivo Coruna on Wednesday.
The team from the principality received a major boost ahead of the Group A match at the Riazor when they ended a 10-match winless streak in the league with a 2-0 victory over Stade Rennes at the weekend.
"Winning is always positive and this win will help to relax us," coach Didier Deschamps said after the match. "At least we rediscovered the taste of victory even if it wasn't a perfect performance.
"We were more confident and relaxed. We didn't concede a goal and, in the first half, we played with a lot more determination and conviction."
Second in the group behind Olympiakos, Monaco know that victory will guarantee them a place in the next round, but that they could also progress if they draw or lose as long as Liverpool do not beat the Greeks at Anfield.
Monaco crushed Deportivo 8-3 at home in last season's group stage, but lost 1-0 at the Riazor and have never won in Spain in European competition.
"We need to look for a result but without taking too many risks," said Argentine midfielder Lucas Bernardi. "Deportivo may not be as good as they were last season but they are still a good team and you can't afford to leave them any space to play."
MONACO ABSENTEES
Monaco will be without forward Shabani Nonda, who strained a thigh muscle in the Rennes match, while influential midfielder Jaroslav Plasil and defender Julien Rodriguez are also out injured.
French international defender Sebastien Squillaci, who was replaced at halftime against Rennes, is doubtful but Italian keeper Flavio Roma should be available despite missing the match at the weekend.
Losing semi-finalists last season, Deportivo are already consigned to a disappointing fourth-place finish after failing to score in any of their previous five group matches and coach Javier Irureta is set to field a second-string side in their final fixture.
Uruguayan keeper Gustavo Munua, and defensive trio Hector and Pablo Amo are all likely to be given run-outs, while Walter Pandiani, who scored a last-gasp equaliser in Sunday's 2-2 draw at Racing Santander, will start up front alongside Albert Luque.
But although Depor do not even have a chance of gaining a consolation place in the UEFA Cup, Irureta has insisted that victory is still important to his side.
"We have to beat Monaco for the sake of prestige and pride," he said. "There is money at stake too. It isn't normal for us not to have won any of our five games so far. We need to end this run and finish off with a win to please our fans."
