Therefore, either Marvin Elliott or Peter Sweeney will drop to the substitutes' bench.

Kevin Horlock is available for Championship leaders Ipswich following a ban.

Drissa Diallo (hamstring) is out and on-loan Arsenal defender Daniel Karbassiyoon could be in line to make his debut.

Sunderland v Leeds
Sunderland centre-back Steve Caldwell could make a surprise return after a swift recovery from a hamstring injury.
Michael Bridges is hoping to continue in attack but Stephen Elliott may return after being rested for the win over Burnley last week.

Leeds are without Sean Gregan and Simon Walton (both suspended) and John Oster, on loan from Sunderland, is ineligible.

Matthew Spring should replace Gregan and Julian Joachim is also pushing for a place up front.

Brighton v Gillingham preview
Brighton manager Mark McGhee is considering changes for the relegation battle with Gillingham at The Withdean Stadium.

The Seagulls are definitely without striker Leon Knight, who collected his fifth yellow card of the season in the defeat to Stoke, while defender Dan Harding's form has been a cause for concern recently.

Gary Hart, who has yet to start a game this season, is the favourite to replace Knight, while Kerry Mayo could step in for Harding at left back.

The 1-0 loss to Stoke was Brighton's sixth home defeat of the season, leaving them just four points above the relegation places.

Gillingham remain in the bottom three, but they boosted their survival bid last weekend by beating bottom club Rotherham in new manager Stan Ternent's first home game.

Ternent's options for the trip to the South Coast are increased by the return of striker Iwan Roberts after suspension, while Darius Henderson is fit again after injury.

The Gills have lost nine of their 12 away games this season and have taken one point from the last eight, while they were beaten 1-0 at home by Brighton in September.

Cardiff v Wolves preview
Cardiff are likely to hand a debut to new signing Junichi Inamoto in the Boxing Day Championship clash with Wolves at Ninian Park.

The Japanese international has signed on loan from West Brom and has received clearance to go straight into the squad to face Glenn Hoddle's side.

City boss Lennie Lawrence will be forced into at least two changes, as Neil Harris cut short his loan spell to sign for Nottingham Forest and skipper Graham Kavanagh is suspended following his red card against Sheffield United.

Inamoto is set to deputise for Kavanagh, while Cameron Jerome should return in place of Harris.

The Bluebirds also have Richard Langley available again after a lengthy injury absence as they bid to move away from danger at the foot of the table.

Wolves go to South Wales having failed to win in their last three games and with only one win to their name in six outings as their prospects of gatecrashing the promotion race continue to dwindle.

Hoddle is likely to keep faith with the players who salvaged a 1-1 draw against Crewe at Molineux last weekend, with Dean Sturridge, Paul Ince, Rob Edwards, Vio Ganea and George Ndah all still missing.

Coventry v Sheff Utd preview
Coventry can welcome back midfielder Michael Doyle against Sheffield United after he missed last weekend's 1-0 victory over Watford through suspension.

Adie Williams has overcome a hamstring injury and could feature, along with fellow defender Dean Leacock who is back in training after compassionate leave.

Peter Reid's side will also be without young defender Andrew Whing once again after he underwent surgery to cure a hernia problem.

Sheffield United are up to fifth place in The Championship after a seven-match unbeaten run.

Andy Gray's first goal in eight games completed The Blades' comeback in their 2-1 win over Cardiff last weekend and manager Neil Warnock will pick between Paul Shaw, Danny Cadamarteri and Luke Beckett to partner the former Bradford man.

If Shaw gets the nod, Warnock is likely to name an unchanged starting line-up, with new signing Danny Cullip continuing at the back after his impressive debut.

Crewe v Burnley preview
Crewe are set to welcome back Northern Ireland international striker Steve Jones against Burnley, after he missed the 1-1 draw at Wolves last weekend through illness.

Midfielder Justin Cochrane is also available again for Dario Gradi's side after missing the trip to Molineux because of shingles.

Chris McCready could return in defence for The Railwaymen after a thigh injury, but Anthony Tonkin is expected to be sidelined by a foot injury.

The Alex are up into the top half of the table after winning four and drawing two of their last six Championship games.

Burnley have also won four of their last six to move into the top half, but they travel to Gresty Road with question marks over the future of star man Robbie Blake.

The Clarets' top scorer has spoken of his frustration at not being allowed to join promotion-chasing Wigan, who have had four bids for the 28-year-old turned down.

Manager Steve Cotterill is still without suspended defender Frank Sinclair and injured goalkeeper Danny Coyne, but could welcome back midfielder Tony Grant after injury.

Leicester v Rotherham preview
Leicester are without inspirational defender Danny Tiatto for the visit of Rotherham after he suffered a fractured cheekbone in the 1-1 derby draw at Nottingham Forest last weekend.

Manager Craig Levein is on the look out for a loan signing to take the place of the combative Aussie, who is set to be out for six weeks, and could be forced to play Jordan Stewart at left back against The Millers.

Defender Matt Elliott and goalkeeper Ian Walker are still sidelined by injury for The Foxes, who have drawn 11 of their 24 Championship matches this season.

Rotherham have managed only one victory and have yet to win away from home, having collected only four points on their travels.

They should be able to welcome back striker Martin Butler after he missed the 3-1 defeat at Gillingham through concussion, while former Leicester defender Phil Gilchrist is also set to return after a virus.

Plymouth v QPR preview
With top scorer Dave Kitson ruled out for at least six weeks with a knee injury, Reading striker Nicky Forster comes into contention for his first start in almost three months against Watford.

Forster has been sidelined by a stomach injury, but returned as a late substitute in the 1-0 win over QPR last weekend. However, manager Steve Coppell may prefer to pair Dean Morgan with Lloyd Owusu in attack, keeping Forster on the bench.

Skipper Graeme Murty faces a late fitness test on his ankle and knee injuries, so Andy Hughes may stay at right back with Paul Brooker keeping his place.

Reading remain unbeaten at The Madejski Stadium in The Championship, having won nine of their 12 home games, but they were beaten by Watford in the Carling Cup.

Paul Jones will make his debut in goal for Watford after joining the club on a month's loan from Wolves.

The 37-year-old replaces Richard Lee, who suffered a broken cheekbone during last weekend's 1-0 defeat at Coventry, which left Ray Lewington's side without a win in nine league matches.

Lewington has also brought in midfielder Johnnie Jackson on a month's loan from Tottenham, and he goes straight into a squad that is still without Danny Webber and Hameur Bouazza.

Stoke v Preston preview
Stoke entertain Preston on Boxing Day looking to earn a fourth consecutive victory having moved up to seventh place on the back of three 1-0 wins.

The Potters won by the only goal at Brighton last weekend and manager Tony Pulis is expected to name the same side which started the game at The Withdean Stadium.

City defender John Halls, who this week played down speculation linking him with a January move to The Premiership, has overcome a slight knock and is fit to play.

Stoke's last 14 league games have produced a grand total of 14 goals and no team has scored more than once in one of their games for more than two months.

Preston go to Staffordshire bidding to improve on the dreadful return of only one win from their last 22 away league games.

Billy Davies' side scored a morale-boosting 2-1 victory over West Ham last weekend, but they have taken just six points on their travels this season.

With Chris Sedgwick suspended, recent loan signing Filipe Oliveira looks set for his full debut after coming on as a substitute against The Hammers.

Sunderland v Leeds preview
Sunderland manager Mick McCarthy is set to name an unchanged team for the visit of Leeds United on Boxing Day.

Defender Steve Caldwell is back in training after his recent hamstring injury, but McCarthy does not want to rush him back into action and he is likely to stick with Neill Collins alongside Gary Breen at the back.

Striker Michael Bridges is expected to keep his place in attack against his former club, with Stephen Elliott having to settle for a place on the bench.

Leeds boss Kevin Blackwell faces a number of selection problems and must make two changes in midfield.

Sean Gregan misses the trip to The Stadium of Light through suspension while winger John Oster, on loan at Elland Road from Sunderland, is ineligible.

Simon Walton, a substitute for last weekend's 1-1 draw with Millwall, is also suspended.

Blackwell has the option of bringing back defender Clarke Carlisle after injury, with Matt Kilgallon moving over to left back and Danny Pugh pushing into midfield along with Jamie McMaster.

West Ham v N Forest preview
Defender Malky Mackay looks set to return for West Ham for the Boxing Day visit of struggling Nottingham Forest.

The Scotland international has been missing for two months with a calf injury, but is set to return in place of Darren Powell, whose loan from Crystal Palace expired during the week.

Fellow centre half Christian Dailly is also closing in on a return for The Hammers, who have won eight of their 12 league games at Upton Park this season.

Former Forest striker Marlon Harewood will again lead the West Ham attack having scored in each of his two previous games against his old club.

Forest, under the temporary charge of Mick Harford, will be without their talismanic winger Andy Reid, who is suspended.

Strikers Gareth Taylor and David Johnson face late fitness tests on knee and leg injuries respectively, but new signing Neil Harris is included in the squad following his move from Millwall.

Forest have lost their last five away Championship games and remain in the relegation zone.

Wigan v Derby preview
Wigan manager Paul Jewell is set to name an unchanged team for the visit of Derby, despite being dissatisfied with his team's performance in the defeat at Ipswich which cost The Latics top spot at Christmas.

Jewell selected his strongest available side at Portman Road and with no new injuries or suspensions he is likely to resist change.

Derby go to The JJB Stadium having won six of their last 10 games, including the last two, a run which has lifted them to eighth place.

George Burley will welcome back midfielder Inigo Idiakez after he missed the 2-0 win at Plymouth through suspension, with loan signing Blessing Kaku stepping down.

Winger Marco Reich comes into contention after replacing Tommy Smith at half time last weekend while Michael Johnson should play despite undergoing surgery on his teeth in midweek.

But Clark will have a battle to displace Michael Nelson who impressed in the 5-1 over Wrexham. Darrell Clarke (knee) is also back in contention.
