The Mavericks started the season with four consecutive losses but it seems now that they are starting to understand the system coach Johnson is trying to run both defensively and offensively. The main thing here is that Nowitzki is back in a comfort zone. During the three-game winning streak he has averaged 30.7 points on 53.1 percent shooting and 9.0 rebounds. Also Jason Terry and Jerry Stackhouse have followed Nowitzki's lead, increasing their production in the past week. They've combined for 43.7 points per game in the three wins.
The Grizzlies had their best offensive performance of the season against the Kings on Wednesday. They shot a season-high 52.7 percent from the field, outscored the Kings, 23-4, in fastbreak points and even attempted eight more free throws. The biggest surprise however came from Chucky Atkins, who made 10 of 11 shots for a season-high 27 points to lead the offense. Still, none of that prevented the Grizzlies from suffering their fifth straight loss. It`s going to be even more difficult tonight against the Mavs cause over 50% shooting is hardly going to be seen again as well as the 27 points from Atkins.
With the injuries the Grizzlies have right now, they're not physically able to keep up with the Mavericks. The Mavs still have many things to work on but tonight we expect them to exploit their obvious edge in the low post. They simply have to get the ball inside since Memphis doesn’t have any answers there (playing without Pau Gasol, they have nobody to guard Nowitzki). Handicap –5.5 will be taken with medium stakes.
