Pilgrims hit by flu bug


League Two side Boston have been forced to abandon training until Christmas Eve.
The Pilgrims' small squad has been decimated by a flu bug so manager Steve Evans took the decision to give his players 48 hours off on Wednesday.

The news comes as a hammer-blow to Boston's preparations for the home game against Lincoln on Boxing Day. However, Evans remains characteristically bullish about his side's chances against Keith Alexander's men.

"About 75% of our squad have been hit with the bug so they've been told to stay at home and wrap themselves up in cotton wool until Friday," confirmed Evans.

"I've spoken to the chairman [Jon Sotnick] and there's no chance of calling the game off so we'll just have to get on with it as only Boston know how.
"Whatever happens, we'll be there fighting in the trenches against Lincoln - tin-hats on and all."

Boss Ernie Tippett could be without the services of goalkeeper Billy Turley for the first time this season when Rushden entertain Oxford.
The 31-year-old shot-stopper has been suspended from the club until further notice pending a disciplinary investigation.

Defender Sean Connelly faces a race against time to be fit for the visit of the Us.
Connelly missed last week's defeat against Scunthorpe with a knee injury but is ready to step up his training after making good progress in his recovery.
However, the former Tranmere full-back may be forced to settle for a place on the bench after Andrew Sambrook impressed against the Iron.
Gary Mills, Gareth Seddon and Robert Duffy remain long-term absentees.
